The "Fairness to Pet Owners Act" or whatever name it is going by this week is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt by big industry, ie. Wal-Mart, Petmeds, etc to crush small business owners, ie, veterinarians. Prescription medications are a significant portion of the income for vets, and removing the viability of that income source will only cause the costs to go up for the services and treatments that Wal-mart cannot provide, such as vaccinations and surgery. Some of these proposals add the onerous cost of providing owners with forms basically advertising for large corporations who are not concerned with the personal health or wellbeing of pets, only profits and market share. One by one, as an industry has shown any level of profitability, large corporations have stepped in with lobbyists and PR campaigns to destroy the competition unfairly through legislation and representation that is not available to small businesses. It is time to stem this tide, and get back to the side of the people, not the corporations.
