Thursday, August 9, 2012 I don't think people realize the consequences of having prescriptions filled out side of a veterinary facility. If owners have to make an extra trip to a pharmacy,and wait while it is filled, they may not get the Rx filled in a timely manner, slowing onset of administration to the pet and reducing effectiveness. Secondly, veterinarians will have to increase office visit fees to cover any loss of income due to the writing of prescriptions. Many human pharmacies don,t even stock the dosages we need. On line pharmacies are not regulated well at all, and the human pharmacies have to deal with that competition as well. What recourse do pet owners have if the medicine they used from an online retailer was defective or bogus How long do they keep their records How will they determine if the product is at fault or owner compliance, especially with heartworm prevention and thyroid medic
