I am opposed to closing the Cortland Tops store (formerly P&C) at Clinton Ave. Ext. because it is the ONLY supermarket on this side of town and its closing would create a major gap in grocery shopping service in our area. A Super Walmart is about to open next month close to Price Chopper and not far from another Tops market as well as an Aldi store and other stores including Super Saver. It appears that the Super Walmart should not have been allowed to begin construction in that location, especially if you are wanting to close down available service in the opposite section of the city where another major population resides. The Clinton Ave. Tops is the only supermarket near the adjacent town of Homer and the northern end of Cortland. We already have traffic congestion problems funneling along the Rt. 281 corridor and definitely need to have grocery service on Clinton Ave. Ext. The Clinton Ave. Tops is located at the Interstate 81 Exit and provides needed services to travelers. These travelers would have to wind all through the City of Cortland in order to access grocery products should you choose to close this site. Please reconsider closing the Clinton Ave. Ext. Tops store that is essential in serving thousands of residents!
