Trader Joe's would be an amazing addition to Portland. When I lived in California and DC I fell in LOVE with Trader Joe's and it would be so nice to have something I love from the bigger cities I have lived in here in Maine for all of the MAINERS to enjoy! Why should we have to drive all the way to Massachusetts to experience the amazingness that is Trader Joe's?! The students would LOVE IT and so would the busy working people in the Portland area. In fact I guarantee that people from all over the states would make pilgrimages to Portland just to stock up. Whole Foods does not have to fear competition. What is offered by the two stores is different enough that consumers will not choose one over the other. they will need to go to both! In fact, it would be a mutually beneficial relationship because people would travel from further away knowing that they have two stores to visit and stock up at rather than just one - whole foods. People are unlikely to come to Portland for whole foods alone because most of the things they can get at their local grocery store for cheaper. But Trader Joe's is different! And when people come down to stock up at Trader Joe's they are likely to swing over to Whole Foods for a sushi roll or to pick up some other stuff they can't get at home too. The people of Portland and Maine deserve to have what is offered to people who live in states with higher populations. YUMMY Trader Joes!
