I have recently been served with a Civil Summons from Unifund CCR Partners based from Cincinnati, Ohio. It is suing me for a credit card debt from Providian in 2000. This suit stems from a credit card dispute over finance charges of approx. $20 if not less. This card was soliciated by telephone, with no mention of fees. Unifund is now wanting to collect over $800 on this transaction. As a consumer I feel this to be unethical and unjust. There should be laws barring this type of secondary debt collection. After contacting 2 lawyers, I was told that it would cost more to defend myself than the $800 and climbing charge. This is wrong, and I feel that there is no one defending out rights. I am certain that I am one of many how are being legally robbed.
