All the ads for free credit reports are certainly confusing! Many of them lead a citizen to believe that they will receive the free report as mandated by the Federal Government. Thus said, I support your proposal to require a separate landing page on sites which advertise free reports which explains that the reports are NOT the free reports guaranteed by the federal government. I also support your proposal to delay advertising for other credit products until after consumers obtain their free annual credit reports. Additionally, pass this along to the appropriate commission: Auto insurers should NOT be allowed to jack up auto rates based on credit reports. Credit reports do not reflect the driving ability of the consumer applying for auto insurance. I am currently paying yearly more than my car is worth due to the auto insurer utilizing credit reports, and I have not had a ticket or accident in over 15 years! This practice is ludicrous and unfair. No wonder so many drivers can't afford insurance and must drive uninsured to get to their jobs!
