This fix is stupid and weak. Why is it a company is permitted to collect information about me and sell it, Even if the information is wrong. While criminals have 365 days a year to steal identities, credit reporting agencies are only forced to provide it for free 1 time per year. Wow, if only we had a genius that could figure out why fraud is increasing exponentially... If I get it, criminals have 1 year to rip me off, without my knowledge. Lawmakers need to wake up. If you want to protect consumers then mandate that they can access their information 100% of the time FREE. They should have an online site where you can manage your credit, and dispute lies. I had a business add blatant lies to my credit report. A tow company tried to collect on a car I had sold over a year ago. Even after I faxed proof to the company 3 times. Businesses can add lies to my credit report, which I then have to pay $15 to dispute. I did pay $15 and the erroneous debt was removed, but really is that fair? Credit reporting agencies could still sell the information (correct information, reviewed by consumers) financial institutions for loan purposes. Also, I never even received my free report from the mandated once per year site website. It couldn't complete it online, so I called the number, then they made me mail in forms, and I never received it. The annual report site is run by the credit card companies who make it such a pain that people give up. I like that just to live, you now have to pay for Lifelock, or another information protection system, because the Credit Reporting Agencies won't provide a secure transparent system for millions of consumers.
