16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures

I went to the CreditReport.com website to get a free credit report. I was instructed to enter a credit card number before getting the free report and it was stated that I would not be billed until I was given the opportunity to opt out of the credit monitoring program they were selling. I never received an email and could find no way to cancel the service on the website. I finally called the company at the end of one week and was told that my card had been billed. I told them to cancel the service and remove the charges, which they did promptly. That was positive, but the web site was so confusing and filled with ads that it was difficult to find the place to click to get the free report. I was able to find it and did get the free report, but it took some maneuvering to avoid signing up for a service. Renee Dole
