16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures

1. Every site which offers credit report/score , either for free or for a charge should be required to explicitly inform the customer of the existence of annualcreditreport.com as the sole federally approved site to get free credit reports. This should be done by a way of BOLD, MAXIMUM ALLOWED font - the page should have 1. only the consent text (one short sentence) 2. clickable URL to annualcreditreport.com 3. Accept button (BIG), Decline (Small size) . Customer should be required to continue on the originating site only if they specifically click on Decline. 2. freecreditreport.com should be stopped and this domain should be acquired by annualcreditreport.com. freecreditreport.com is owned by experian, one of the sponsoring bureau. 3. All the sponsoring ads should be removed. Even the landing sites on credit bureaus should be clean and directly give free credit report, without harassing the user to buy extra options (score etc...)
