16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures

Access to free credit rreports should be available advertising and marketing free. It should be mindlessly simple. One should be able to request an annual free report from all three of the credit reporting companies or only one at a time. Now, even if you call the Credit reporting company at the advertised phone number, or go online to the company's website, it is almost impossible to make the simple request for the credit report. If you get an email offer for free credit reports, it's not clear whether the email is a phishing expedition or a legitimate offer. And currently even if one initiates the request, it is so confusing to navigate the webpage that it's easier just to write a letter requesting the report. Please fix these problems by writing rules that state unambiguously that no advertising or marketing is allowed and that legitimate phone numbers and email addresses be given. Thank you.
