Although the AnnualCreditReport.com site is "sponsored" by the credit agencies identified at the bottom of the first page, I assume that they are only providing this "free service" because of the requirements imposed upon them due to past abusive practices on their part. I think that the information should be free - and provided completely free of other distracting offers, etc. Essentially this site should not be a place for the credit bureaus to "advertise" any of their products. Furthermore, I really don't understand why the whole credit problem, identity thief problem, etc. is all the individual's problem. There should be a stronger requirement for the credit bureaus to ensure that their information is accurate. Why do the individuals have to do the work that the credit bureaus should be doing to verify the information? And then to have to pay money on top for the "privilege" of doing what the agencies should be doing.
