In order to properly end any consumer confusion regarding AnnualCreditReport.com, the FTC should demand the removal of all advertising and marketing by credit bureaus before, during and after the process of getting a free credit report. It is imperative that the FTC act to correct the flaws in the existing Web site design standards so that commercial activity on the part of credit bureaus is clearly separate from the free material. Furthermore to preserve the integrity of AnnualCreditReport.com, the FTC should require other Web sites that advertise a free credit report to send the consumer to a separate landing page with a required disclosure: "This is not the free credit report provided for by federal law."
