From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The idea of the Federal Government or any state or local governmental body supplying funds to journalists is clearly an attempt to get the governmental Fox guarding the Citizenry Henhouse. The only way the citizen should have to support any publication by any journalist is by that citizen freely BUYING said publication. No citizen should ever be forced to support anything he does not believe in or for that matter what he does not want his children exposed to. If a conservative journalist cannot make a living peddling his journalistic wares then he needs to find another job. The same laws of supply and demand should apply to any free-market endeavour. I am an artist going through pretty tough times in this economy. I will not ask the federal government to buy any of my music, paintings or poetry. The government would then have a say of what goes into or is produced by my art. I appreciate the Journalist's work as a true art form but I will determine what I will buy and bring into my home and what I will leave at the news stand for as long as this is a free country. Journalism will always adapt and grow provided there is a demand. Do not fear for journalism. fear for the journalist. As any true journalist knows that his work is to be purchased or rejected depending on his support base so then he also knows that the form of media is moot.
