From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am against any proposal that includes using tax payer dollars to support journalism. Let the media survive on their own merit, or lack thereof. Can anyone at the workshop explain to me why a federal government entity is involved in supporting salaries for journalists? Does the government really want to control all thought and speech? When I read 1984 by George Orwell many decades ago, I thought that it was something that couldn't happen in this country. Now I am not so sure. Taxing outlets of information not controlled by large newspapers and television stations appears to be an attempt to silence anyone that does not support liberal views. If newspapers have fallen on hard times, let them blame it on themselves for being the mouthpiece for far left agendas. By putting social spin on stories, events, and even what is and what is not reported, they have lost credibility as seekers of facts and truth.
