From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am concerned about the government's involvement in journalism. Journalism should be separate from the State's control. The State (in this case the federal government) should be answerable to the media, not guide, shape or control the media. It seems that the media already participates too much in partisan politics where reporters and companies who employ said reporters engage in the one sided reporting of issues so as to sway the outcome of public opinion. The media, newspapers and television, is free speech and should remain free to fail or succeed based on free market forces. The American tax payer should not be made to pay to support media outlets whose reporting is untrusted or undesired. The American tax payer should not be made to fund a media outlet that is controlled by or even has the appearance of being controlled by any political party in power.
