From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am opposed to any new taxes, fees, or regulations to support or control the news media companies. If news companies are going out of business, it because they don't have a viable business plan. A product is only worth what a customer is willing to pay. We did not tax the automobile to support buggy whip manufacturers and we did not tax the IPOD to help support CD manufacturers. If their content has value, then someone will be willing to pay for the content (the Wall Street Journal charges for their online content). I have no problem with protecting copywrited information but I am opposed to any attempt to charge all internet users a fee to protect copywrited materials.
