From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
To the Federal Employee(s) Who Reads This Message, I write to voice my opinion on this so-called "investigation". Who says that journalism needs to "survive the internet age"? What is that even supposed to mean? Can journalists not write columns and post them to the internet? Whatever this investigation is purported to be, it is clearly a bad joke. The mere thought of using tax dollars to prop up failing news media is an outrage. What is the motivation behind this "study"? Traditional media (ex. CNN, NBC etc.) is hurting because they do not report real news. I see this firsthand on a daily basis. They report what appears to be a synchronized spoon-fed message directly from the White House. Meanwhile conservative media such as Fox News is thriving. Why is this? It is because they have the audacity to report current events accurately which includes reporting on the countless failures of our current incompetent administration and members of Congress. People are increasingly turning from the false media to seek the truth. Not reporting on these countless failures is irresponsible and deceptive, yet that is precisely what we are seeing in the majority of main stream media. The level of corruption in our Federal government has truly reached astronomical proportions if now the goal is to outright commandeer free speech through main stream media control using our tax dollars as the vehicle to perpetuate this tyranny. The Federal government has absolutely no business becoming entangled in any form of media whatsoever. Any such involvement would be the end of free speech as we know it. If newspapers and periodicals are failing because their traditional products are no longer in demand then they should adapt appropriately by scaling back their paper production and focusing on the internet. If managers of these companies are incapable of adjusting appropriately to the times then these companies should go under and newer more efficient companies should and will take their place. This is the way of the market. Leave the market alone! I am so sick of our fascist Federal government ignoring the Constitution and reaching into areas they have no business (or authority) touching. Every time the Federal government has meddled in the private industry the results have been catastrophic and the tax paying citizens are the ones who take the hit. This "bailout" garbage must be stopped, and don't deny it because that is precisely what the end result of this "study" will amount to. Your insidious actions are absolutely despicable. How much more do you think the taxpayers can take before this entire country goes under? Perhaps this is the goal. This was probably a complete waste of my time because I doubt that you will listen. After all, you are Federal employees so not listening to concerned citizens is your established protocol at this point. Furious and Irritated, Andrew S.
