From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Journalism in whatever form should be able to stand on their without being propped up by an intrusive government. Government cannot and should not provide any support for the media whether they are in print or electronic or on the internet. As free Americans we should decide who has the best product by supporting them by reading them or watching them. Government has no business in determining who succeeds or fails in a free enterprise capitalistic system. Government has no right to decide who makes it in the market place. Free Americans can and will make that decision not government. There should be no journalism division in Americorp or any form of a bail out fund for journalism. Free American's must and should decide who makes it or doesn't. A free press unencumbered by an intrusive government is essential to American freedom. The FTC needs to butt out and let the free market decide who survives. Free speech in America means something to our basic freedom and government should not interfere. The First Amendment means what it says and that is that "Congress shall make no law respecting......abridging the freedom of speech or of the press". In other words, we the people decide what speech we listen to or read without government interference. The FTC needs to butt out and let journalism in any form survive or fail on their own.
