From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The growth of the internet is an excellent example of how free enterprise spawns development and improves communication. Provide protection from hackers, etc. Do not tax it or restrict it in any way. Let the newspapers and TV stations alone. Newspapers are losing relevancy because they do not provide what the public wants. Those that provide meaningful comment will surve. Otherwise, they are just Tabloids. The same for TV networks. Public demand, not congressional mandate will determine the survoirs. It is most important that the government does not support, or subsidize in any manor, any of the media. That can only lead to government control and loss of freedom of speech and discent.
