From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Inappropriately named schemes such as "The Fairness Doctrine" are being considered in Washington. Currently, speech is limited only by market forces, i.e. if the public supports the media in question the market allows the speech to be heard. If the "speech" fails in the marketplace, the "speech" is lost. This is as it should be. Government should not be in the business of labeling "speech" and endorsing brands of "speech" and their media outlets.
