From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The Federal Government has no business bailing out the media. Without a "FREE" and "Independent" press, we will lose one of the most important aspects of our free society. A media that is supported by government is a media that is controlled by government. Government control of the press through Americorps or by funding media, gives government control over what is or is not "News" I am not interested in the USA version of Pravda. I do not want my tax dollars used to pay journalists salaries, making them the "mouthpiece" of the federal government rather than the "fourth estate" If new technologies change the way our news is disseminated then journalists have to adjust to the times. I am in the publishing business, no one is offering to pay my salary if my company can't compete. Let the market decide. Horse drawn carriages were important methods of transportation until the automobile came along. The Government didn't try to prop up the horse drawn carriage industry, they had to adapt. Stay out of the media.
