From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
This proposal is nothing more than a governmental move to rescue the conventional media, at taxpayer expense. The print media have marginalized themselves to a great extent by their demonstrated political bias and by their increasing irrelevance in an era when people demand news be delivered quickly. Taxpayers have been fleeced by a number of "rescue" programs that have only increased governmental control over the "rescued" entities. This proposal is another rescue of something "too big/important to fail." The entire notion is bunk and this proposal is just one more boondoggle to prop up something that should be allowed to fail and not kept on life support by the suffering taxpayer.
