From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
NO to FTC efforts to censor and tax free speech! I can't believe the FTC is considering such an idea as this for several reasons: 1. How can journalism be objective and impartial (which I fear it is far from being already) when it is being funded by the government. 2. Nothing the government does is successful financially (look at NPR) and funding removes the fate that most businesses face daily - be a service or value to someone or go out of business. 3. It is directly opposite what our founding fathers envisioned. 4. We are broke! Where would you get this money - I surely don't want to subsidize journalism with my tax money, nor do I want to fund training journalists in the government's image. What will you subsidize next? Lawyers who aren't making enough money?! This is un-American and an obvious grab to control the press. I thought this only happened in socialist countries. But wait ... I forgot - we are heading that way aren't we?
