From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Why should the American taxpayer prop up a largely biased industry? The moment ANY journalist advocates toward any politician or policy, they are no longer objective and therefore no longer a journalist. That is learned in high school journalism classes and it's not a complicated perspective to understand. Further, it was NEVER the intent of the framers to have government financially support journalists/press. This administration has embarked on a slippery slope - one that is VERY reminiscent of the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and, quite frankly, scares the heck out of me. In addition, I would question the FTC's attempts to prop up journalism - I do not believe that is the function of the Commission but rather to make sure there are no anti-trust laws being broken. Given the diversity involved w/the subject matter (journalism), I do not see how the Commission can justify embarking on this discussion, let alone having the discussion develop into a proposal of a bill before Congress. That is not the role of not only the FTC but the Federal Government in general. The Framers would be appalled at where this country is now and would likely have tried every politician responsible for casting votes that eradicate individual rights for treason. SHAME ON YOU, FTC!!!!
