From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Let the free market decide. If print journalism is not in demand, obviously consumers do not believe that it is worthwhile. If print journalism becomes a thing of the past, then so be it. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT SUBSIDIZE JOURNALISM WITH TAXPAYERS' DOLLARS. This would create a conflict of interest. If government "pays" the press, journalists will feel pressure, in order to keep their jobs, to support the party currently in power. The press is supposed to be an independent voice. Anything else smacks of totalitarianism.
