From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Please accept this notice as my adamant objection to the FTC’s proposed Reinvention of Journalism. There is no way to describe this proposal other than as an outright 1st Amendment violation and an attempt to convert respected news outlets into nothing more than disseminators of government propaganda. We’ve seen government take-over of news media in the old Soviet Union, I have first-hand observation of it from China, and Hugo Chaves has implemented it in Venezuela. There is little chance for a society to call themselves “free” if their government controls and dictates their speech. I am stanchly opposed to the federal government taxing one point of view and means of communicating information to prop up a failing point of view and/or media that the marketplace has, and is, demonstrating that it does not want. They will either produce a product that the American People want enough to pay for themselves individually (without tax dollars), or they will go out of business, clear and simple. Or to state it another way, I am absolutely opposed to the FTC’s apparent effort to censor and tax conservative speech.
