From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I would like to submit that it would be unfair to the majority of the people of the United States of America for a branch of the federal government to so completely controlled what is said, advertised or politicized on the internet, newspapers, radios, televisions...or any advertising that is control by said government agency. This would be a police state and would put us in the very same category as Venezuela! We have (or used to have) freedom of speech in America! Whatever your beliefs, that same freedom of speech should be maintained. The whole world looks to us because of our freedoms! We are also a country that can overcome. If journalism is to survive, then it is up to the journalists and the colleges that train them. We don't need the government stepping in everytime an entity gets in trouble. We definitely don't need a government training our journalists! When journalists stopped reporting the news and began editorialising that's when people began to get weary of listening to them. We need to get back to just plain reporting and investigative reporting. It would be a huge mistake for the government to believe that we want them regulating our freedom in such a manner!
