From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
To the FTC: As an average American, it is startling and heart breaking to watch the government take over so many of our industries. Industries and businesses built by private, hard-working citizens who channeled their creativity through a free market system that made this country great. Part of our heritage as Americans is our ability to decide what we say, who we listen to, what we read, how we receive our news, what media outlets we prefer--all choices made by taxpayers without any government intrusion. Through the free markets the citizenry has decided what media will survive, thrive, or become obsolete. Why would you think that you, a small group of folks appointed, not elected can make better decisions than the American taxpayers? Why would you want to take my hard earned money and tell me what media outlet I have to support through taxation? Why would you want to regulate the greatest advantage to freedom--free press and free speech? If you foolishly put your agenda over the will of the American people, you will be betraying your countrymen. Your own families and friends for generations to come. I can assure you that the American people will not support any decisions to hinder speech or manipulate the press. Propaganda is press sponsored by the government. It leads to more corruption and eventually a total loss of liberty. Is this your desire for our great nation and the people of the United States of America?
