From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The first amendment to the Constitution for the United States specifically protects freedom of speech and of the press. Article 1, Section 8 specifically enumerates what the federal government may do. Both of those prohibit federal bailout of the media, which will inevitably lead to censorship. It is un-Consitutional to consider any alternative other than letting the free market and the people determine which media they will support. Government interference should not be allowed. In addition, we have no more money. The country is broke, and so are the taxpayers. It has to stop now. Journalism must sink or swim on its own, not with a government bailout which will lead to government control.
