From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Will the government help Big Oil survive when we find workable alternative energy sources? We are in the new information age, and any attempt by the government to meddle in the publication or broadcast of information will be seen as an attempt to influence and control the publication or broadcast of information. All forms of journalistic endeavor must find their own ways to adapt. We already have public radio and television, isn't that enough? (If Congress wishes to appropriate funds for some kind of national public newspaper or news magazine, that would be their decision to make, not yours, but that should be the extent of government involvement. If they do make such a decision, they better not raise funds for such an endeavor by any type of tax or fee structure that could be seen as favoring one form of media and disfavoring another form of media.) Anything more than this and the FCC would be turning in the official Ministry of Propaganda. Why can't the people be trusted to decide for themselves which news sources they trust and support?
