From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I ask that the FTC abandon the proposals listed in it's recent "Reinventing Journalism" document. The proposed taxes in this document are in effect taxes on free speech, which in my opinion is unconstitutional. Let me say I oppose any efforts by the FTC to censor, limit, or restrain free speech. I also don't want my tax dollars spent on an AmeriCorps Journalism Division, there's no justification for such wasteful spending. My local newspaper has adjusted to the recession and is producing a newspaper citizens want to read, news organizations need to do the same. I definitely oppose using tax dollars to bail out news organizations. I also want to say Washington does not have the right to determine what the "local interests" are in my local radio station's programming to include conservative talk shows and Christian Broadcasting.
