From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Since when does the Federal Government have any say so or control over journalism. Journalism is defined as: the occupation of reporting, writing, editing, photographing, or broadcasting news or of conducting any news organization as a business. It is extremely unnerving to even contemplate federal control or policy over journalism such as that suggested by the FTC. The FTC should have no and I emphasize no say so in journalism. If the current business models of journalism are crumbling so be it, change the way you do business just like all other industries are having to do in this down economy. But there should be no “reinvention” of the news. It is our first amendment rights to free speech no matter what the mode of communication. The FTC should stick to what it is good at consumer protection. This draft is a waste of my hard earned tax money.
