From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I STRONGLY OPPOSE any and ALL new taxes, surcharges or fee's to be assessed to "redistribute" to the "traditional" media companies. I STRONGLY OPPOSE to the FTC getting involved in "reinventing" the media; it is NOT the role of our government to create or manage business plans or strategize for any media organization or industry. The changes that are occurring are by WE THE PEOPLE collectively, the "old" ways of doing business (if they demonstrate) the inability to adapt and respond with new innovation in ways that the market will favorably react. If we had this mentality that the government were to get involved in the "reinvention" of an industry, service or product we would still have dial-up internet, still be driving inferior vehicle and use 8-track media or BetaMax video due to the fact the market decided these were not viable, useful. If the FTC decided what was "fair" and to keep existing "status-quo" or technologies, services and products were the winners or losers; this is IDIOTIC!!!!! I believe the overwhelming opinion I have heard from everyone, the message is loud and clear to the FTC; STAY OUT OF THE MEDIA!
