From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The FTC is the last organization that should be involved in regulating any aspect of journalism, especially journalism on the internet. The reason that print journalism is suffering is two fold. 10 Biased and mediocre reporting by major news outlets. People are wising up to the fact that our so called free press is little more than corporate whores and government shills with respect to the major media. 2) Newspapers and magazines are incredibly wasteful when better, more timely information can be obtained electronically and the pile up of old papers and magazines reduced, as well as the waste of those raw materials avoided. Any effort by the FTC to further intervene in the world of journalism will be strongly opposed and can only lead to a more fascist style of journalism much like "Pravda" was in the former USSR. Stay away form journalism. Let the consumer decide whose news is fit to read.
