From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I have read the document "How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age". While there are a FEW suggestions that I find reasonable, once the section is reached that starts describing how the federal government should get involved with tax subsidies, taxing of electronic devices, etc...there is a whole list...I became very alarmed and angry. Though the article says several times "we must be careful how we do this to prevent political bias", I am shocked by these suggestions. It is, minimally, naive to think this will realistically be possible. Proposing these types of government interferences with news media is negligent, dangerous, and outrageous. The ONLY reasonable suggestion I saw on there was perhaps a small tax break to help fund journalists salaries. The remainder of the proposals were dangerous, a threat to free speech, a threat to democracy, and an unfair and unwanted additional burden by the tax payers. THE GOVERNMENT AND MEDIA HAVE NO BUSINESS MIXING- EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
