From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The only thing journalism needs from government, besides information about what government is doing, is for government to keep its grubby hands off journalism. Haven't you read your history? A FREE press is NECESSARY for an informed public, and if the press accepts government money, or has to pay government a tax for the privilege of disseminating the news, it is no longer FREE. Government personnel and journalists must be adversaries for the system to work. What is so difficult to understand about that? "New Journalism", my buns! There's nothing wrong with the old journalism. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This whole thing appears to this underpaid journalist to be a terrifying attempt by government to control the information disseminated to its citizens. In the name of decency, honor, freedom and liberty, discard this entire atrocious idea at once.
