From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Any plan of the government to subsidize or even support journalism is inherently flawed, meaning self-serving. The press (and schools, for that matter) must be free to be true. Don't worry. Journalism will survive in one form or another, because there is a need. Any fairness doctrine is also flawed. Just as the government is instructed by the Constitution not to favor one church over another, so neither side of the political spectrum should be favored. Trust the people to figure things out on their own. That's one reason we set up public schools, no? To teach people how to think.
