From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I oppose any measure by the government to manipulate the content of journalism including, 1) government run political indoctrination programs presented as journalism programs, such as the proposed “journalism division” of AmeriCorps, 2) the so called "Fairness Doctrine", which would apply to conservative talk radio, but interestingly not apply to ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, PBS, and NPR, 3) a government tax used to support government-favored media outlets. Regarding point #3, the journalism industry will figure out their business model for success. There is a new company called Journalism Online (journalismonline.com) which is developing such a model, and looks like it has a business model which can be successful. The government is not needed to "save the newspapers", especially since any government support would have strings attached, or at least come with an implied expectation of support for the government. I do not want Barack Obama controlling the newspapers and tv networks.
