From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
It is my understanding that the FTC is proposing to reinvent journalism for various reasons stated on the FTC web site; however, the unspoken reason is to advance the socialist agenda of the current administration to stifle free speech and silence conservatives. These are some of my concerns with the FTC proposed paper: * A “Drudge Tax” on news aggregators like The Drudge Report who stand on the front lines of the struggle to expose the Leftist agenda. * A “journalism division” of AmeriCorps -- forcing taxpayers to pay the Obama Administration to train up the next generation of liberal journalists! * A direct Journalism Bailout fund to “help pay the salary of every journalist” -- YOU AND I will be forced to fund the liberal media! * A 5% tax on consumer electronics (like the iPad) * Possible taxes on cell phones, television and radio that would all be part of a massive $35 billion “Citizenship Media Fund” This is in addition to the so called "Fairness Doctrine" being pushed by the FCC and the current administration. The free enterprise system should be allowed to work and the FTC should not be authorized to add more taxes on the citizens of this country without representation. Taxpayers should not be forced to bailout another industry. We do not need any additional government control, as a matter of fact, we need to reduce the size and control of the federal government which has overstepped the powers granted by the US Constitution and return those powers authorized to the states back to the states. Please use some common sense for a change in making your decision.
