From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
To the Memebers of FTC: I do not believe that government entitities should be involved in any way in subsidizing or supporting journalistic activities with public funding or programs. In order for free speech to be really free, it must be supported by private organizations, subject to free market activities alone. If journalistic activities cannot be maintained by the support of the free market, they should be allowed to fail, not be "bailed out" by tax funding. In additon, in my opinion, any government programs to train journalists are likely to reflect the biases of the party or parties designing the programs. I am strongly opposed to the current FTC plan/proposal for the "Reinvention of Journalism", especially any plans to use taxpayer funds to pay journalists or to tax communication devices as part of the "Citizen Media Fund." I see this proposal as another attempt by the government to control and/or interfere with our precious freedom of speech!!!! DO NOT DO THIS !!!!! Sincerely yours, P. Chamberlain
