From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am very concerned with the latest FTC attempts to control internet and news media content through new taxes and/or regulations. Using taxes and rules to regulate internet news and opinion content is a transparent political infringement on the rights of citizens to unbiased reporting and comment from a wide range of sources such as bloggers to commercial media outlets. Moreover, using taxes on open access internet news to bolster failing newspaper corporations is more than just a bailout for obsolete and inefficient newspapers; it raises the specter of political control of subsidized media based on their willingness to report on government in a favorable light. Please abandon this attempted assault on our First Amendment.I will be asking my senators and congressman to vigorously oppose the FTC on this matter. Sincerely, Michale J. McEachern cc: Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gilibrand Congressman Peter King
