From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Dear Sirs: One of the great aspects of the American system of freedom established by our Constitution is the "Freedom of Speech." I am strongly apposed to any law or policy that will limit that principle in the name of preserving journalism. Government is there to protect freedom not promote one veiw over another. Any effort by government to bailout any news paper or news company would be counter productive to our system of freedom. Let them rise or fall based on thier own enitiative and merit. The power to tax it the power to influence or destroy. There should be no special tax on any journalistic organization or company nor any special preveliges or financial support granted by government to these organizations. Also, I am strongly apposed to the so called, "Fairness Doctrine." It is nothing more than a thinly vailed attempt of limit or control the freedom of speech. Whenever the power of government is used to "protect" the public from the views of others it has over stepped its authority and has become despotic. Please confine your activities to protecting freedom of speech not limiting it. THANKS
