From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Journalism will survive without government interference in the form of taxes or subsidies. To ensure free speech as provided for in the Constitution, it should not be taxed in any way. Nor should the government be funding journalism since that will lead to the journalism becoming a propoganda arm of the governemnt. Government funded journalism will force journalists to publish what the government demands so that they maintain their funding. The purpose of a free press is to be a watchdog over the government. If these proposals are adapted, the free press will cease to exist and any speech that the government does not like will be suppressed. Add these proposals to the trash heap and let freedom and the free press live on.
