From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I understand that the FTC has unveiled a plan for the “Reinvention of Journalism” that involves the creation of several new taxes that will be used to bring journalism under the influence and even control of the federal government. This is an outrage and nothing more than an attempt by the Obama Administration to seize control of the press. This is not communist Russia or China, but freedom-loving America! The federal government has no legitimate reason to be involved in training or reimbursing journalists, nor should a bailout even be considered. Technology has changed and continues to shape the way that news is presented, and the traditional outlets must also change to survive and remain relevant. It is up to the news agencies to reinvent themselves without the government's involvement. In summary, the “Reinvention of Journalism” is simply a plan for a series of taxes that would stifle free speech. Please consider this my clear statement of opposition to the "Reinvention of Journalism" and any other efforts to censor, regulate, tax and control our free speech - on talk radio, on the internet or anywhere else.
