From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
When the government taxes some news agencies and not others, is involved in training journalists, uses tax dollars to pay journalists, and uses tax dollars to fund a "Citizenship Media Fund", that sounds like the beginning of a government controlled media. The govenment is not trying to make the diseminated news better for the people, it's trying to make the news better for the goverment. Don't bailout failed news agencies, let the market determine what they want to hear and see. Once the government puts our tax dollars into an industry they then try to controll that industry, like they have done with the automotive industry and healthcare. Speach should not be controlled by the government, instead the government should be insuring that freedom of speach be protected. You're a federal agency, do your job! Protect the Constitution!!!
