From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am disturbed at the FTC's plans to stifle free speech and subsidize and favor certain kinds of political speech by a new tax on internet aggregators, taxes on electronic devices, subsidies for journalists and enlisting Americorps government workers as "journalists." We don't need a "citizen's media fund!" Blogs and website can be had on any number of site free. Podcasts are easy to start with a $15 microphone. Youtube videos can be produced with a $20 webcam. Anyone who wants can become a "citizen journalist." We don't need make-work Americcorps citizen journalist jobs at taxpayer expense! Americans wont' stand for this blatant attempt to socialize the news and create a government propaganda machine like in Chavez' Venezuela. Let people make their own decisions about what to read, listen to and watch, without government subsidies of speech it favors, or taxes on speech it doesn't.
