From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
"Reinvention of Journalism"... this seems to be yet another power grab. When you peel the layers back and get to the main agenda...it's tax and control, tax and control. Journalism can find it's own way in the internet world. There are plenty of journalist writting daily & weekly on the internet & newspaper. For government to bottle feed journalism means they own and control it. Saving jourmalism is just a cover to control free speech on the internet by taxing those who exercise their free speech. I like the way we get information now...from different and varying sources. Under the "Citizenship Media Fund" the government would be manipulating the source of news we get by taxing those who don't comply and giving tax-exemptions to those who do. It also would force the taxpayers to pay for the news source the government want us to hear WITH OUR OWN TAX DOLLARS. Oh yes, to be fair we can send some of our "Media Fund" tax to a non-profit news source of our choice...that is WITHIN the government's group of choice, of course. We will be "censored" from aggregators and we "must not engage in forbidden political discourse." Discourse could be anyone who disagrees with the government's agenda, questions the taxes emposed(Citizenship Media Fund?? really!!) or doesn't agree with government spending, or bills passed in Congress...unread...against the will of the people. Discourse could be anyone who doesn't agree with the "fundamental change" that is being rammed down our throats faster than we can throw them up.
