From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I believe that journalism will survive just fine without government intervention. Free speach rights are just that, you have no right to add more taxes to subsidize a form of media that is growing more and more out of touch with mainstream public sentiment. The statistics report that more than two thirds of the press corps is now liberal to extremely liberal; where in the people of this country are more likely to be moderate to conservative. If the liberal press corps cannot survive without a government handout, what does that say about their ideals? They are just as bankrupt as the media outlets that employ them. You need to allow companys to fail on their own; the car companies should have been allowed to fail, yet I as a taxpayer am forced to shoulder a share of the bad decisions made by corporate heads from Wall Street to Detroit; and I am getting tired of it. Enough is enough, let the "gray lady" die, along with any other form of media that just can't compete.
