From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I totally oppose the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) 47-page bureaucratic plan for the “Reinvention of Journalism” that outlines a series of taxes that would stifle free speech and silence conservatives. This plan is totally unconstitutional. This "Reinvention of Journalism" plan is nothing more than an extensive attempt by the Obama Administration to seize control of the press. There is no constitutional basis for this plan and it will be overturned by the Courts. This plan which includes the following is totally unconstitutional: * A “Drudge Tax” on news aggregators like The Drudge Report who stand on the front lines of the struggle to expose the Leftist agenda. * A “journalism division” of AmeriCorps -- forcing taxpayers to pay the Obama Administration to train up the next generation of liberal journalists! * A direct Journalism Bailout fund to “help pay the salary of every journalist” -- YOU AND I will be forced to fund the liberal media! * A 5% tax on consumer electronics (like the iPad) * Possible taxes on cell phones, television and radio that would all be part of a massive $35 billion “Citizenship Media Fund” I will not pay any taxes to support the training of any journalist. The FTC has no authority to impose a “Fairness Doctrine” in an attempt to stop conservative speech and that would empower the Obama administration to control the dissemination of information while imposing punitive taxes on ideological opponents. The FTC can not and will not censor, regulate, tax and control our free speech! I totally oppose any effort by the FTC to censor and tax conservative speech and our free speech rights in general which is a basic freedom under the Constitution. The FTC needs to get its own house in order and take control over its own employees first and cut its own budget first, before wasting tax payers money on such a preposterous attempt to control free speech of every citizen in this country. Any regulation as described above is attempted by the FTC it will be shot down by the Courts. Don't waste tax payers money on such ridiculous legislation! It is 100% opposed.
