From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
It is my opinion that the FTC and the Federal Government of the United States should not be involved with the regulation or manipulation of News organizations, whether print or electronic. It is only with a free press, unencumbered by Government intervention, that the American public can be truthfully informed and protected from an over zealous and overreaching Government. A free press and open government are the best safeguards for a free public. Government regulation will only serve to stifle both. News organizations and those outside the traditional so called main stream media should not be in any way connected the government. News is an invaluable commodity to a free society and the private sector will always find a way to gather and disseminate the news. The methods may change over time, but news organizations should not be subsidized or bailed out, but should stand or fall on their own merits. The government has no business being in the news business.
